Lesson 1: A REVIEW OF EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY 1

The Educational Technology 1 course smooth the way for the learners to become aware, appreciative and equipped to use educational technologies tools. It also oriented the dangers of dehumanization which the technology brings into societies like ideological propaganda, pornography, financial fraud and other exploited use of the technologies.

Reflection:
Educational Technology 1 course is an orientation for the learners on how technology can improve the process of learning by using the different gadgets, techniques and approaches and warns the disadvantages of these technologies if these are not properly used. It also makes a familiarization to the learners and imparts skills and techniques in using the computer.

Application:
As a future educator, this lesson help me know that not all technology has advantages in our life but it has also a disadvantages that my ruin us.

Lesson 2: AN OVERVIEW OF EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY 2

Educational technology 2 is concerned with “Integrating Technology into Teaching and Learning.” Specifically this is focused on introducing, reinforcing, supplementing and extending the knowledge and skills to learners so that they can become exemplary users of educational technology.  In essence, the course aims to infuse technology in the student-teachers training, helping them to adapt and meet rapid and continuing technological changes particularly in the thriving global information and communication technology (ICT) environment.

Reflection:
In this lesson the learners have obtain the knowledge on how to integrate the technology into teaching and learning process. Not just for the use of student-teachers but also on anyone who have an interest on how Information Technology is being used as an instructional tool.

Application:
In this case, when we will be teaching, we can reinforce and supplement the learning of our students at the same time exposing them to a new learning environment.

Lesson 3: UNDERSTANDING TECHNOLOGY LEARNERS

Today’s generation, the learners appearing smarter because they are now involve through computer class and also the learners are now called digital learners. There is some concern for the new learners that when they are using technology there would be a positive or negative effects of using it.
Jean Piaget presented a chart that speaks about from childhood where in different ages, they can learn from concrete to abstract thinking and reasoning. It is important to new learners to meet the feared under development along to the social face to face interactions skills. True to say that is balance needed the cures changes among this computer age.

Reflection:
As a student I can say that today’s generation the learners are involved in computers skills because some learners feel that the traditional media is boring to them but I guess from time to time the traditional media is always applicable. A psychologist Jean Piaget on his traditional chart must be redefined thus as I relate myself from childhood to adulthood that is procedural in learning. Nowadays at the age of five above are expose in technology and playing video games hence, we are in the world of technology.

Application:
As a future educator, the world will be more high in technology, so  i can apply this learning in the near future by using computer to record all my grades or all my files.

Lesson 4: BRIDGING THE GENERATION GAP

The older generation often feels there is a generation gap between them and the younger generation. This is apparent in simple things like the manner of dressing, socializing, more intimate relationship like friendship and marrying.  In the field of education, a huge generation gap also exists and will continue to widen unless some changes are adopted at the proper time.

There is a need to prepare for bridging the digital gap in society and to do this we need to understand the potentials of ICT:

·                    -    The new network of instantaneous communication is global

·                    -      Much of what elders believe may not be applicable anymore to the new generation, especially along matters of
                    traditional value systems

·                    -      Alvin Toffler’s book, Future Shock, shows how the information age has begun to create may cultural changes
in the family, society, modular man, kinetic image, scientific trajectory, fractured family, surfeit of sub cults,
                    psychological dimensions and etc.

Given the speed and power of ICT for change, growth, innovation, it becomes critical that teachers understand the gap that maybe perceived between them and the new generation of learners. As sophisticated technology advances at a dizzying pace, the complacency of educators to stick to traditional education systems and approaches become futile, if not retrogressive. Since the new generation is expected to face a future professional challenge of a digital world ahead of them, technology-supported skills need to be taught in schools today, or else schools will become a white elephant.

Reflection:
The gap of old generation and new generation is increasing because of the rapid pace of technological advancement in education. Schools are responding to this problem by teaching new supported-skills in ICT to the learners and teachers.

Application:
We must open our mind that we new generations are the bridge of understanding the use of modern technologies. Nowadays, in order to make things easier, efficient and effective, updated technologies are very essential.

Lesson 5: PREFERENCE OF THE TECHNOLOGY LEARNING

Educators have become more aware and active in adopting state of the art educational technology practices they can possibly adopt today. Following the modern trends in technology- related education, schools should now foster a student centered learning environment because schools can’t avoid the integration of ET in instruction. As the world modernized, present day students also have undergo modernization in terms of computer literacy. This was a twisted learning from traditional, where the students relied to all their info to their teacher and to creative and critical thinking where students are independent learners. Constructivism paved the way for instructional approaches, students rely less on teachers as information- givers. They acquire information, build their own knowledge and solved problems.

In ET we have SYSTEMATIC INSTRUCTIONAL PLANNING PROCESS namely:
identification of instruction goal,
second is analyze learners,
third identify objectives,
fourth is planning of instructional activities ,
fifth is choosing ET media,
sixth is implementing instruction,
seventh is making assessment on learning outcomes and effectiveness of ET application
and the last one is recycling instruction.

Reflection:
I am more exposed on the digital-based way of teaching, learning and getting rewards. And I also experienced how to get reward after playing games but on the other hand giving medals and grades as a reward is still present nowadays. I reflected that there is really a big change when it comes to the system of education because before it seems that things are on its slow motion but now things seems to be in hurry.

Application:
as future educators, we must have knowledge about the modern technology and try to integrate it in our lessons. This could be a big help not only to us but also for our students to be active in class and to unleashed boredom for the part of the students to just sit there and listen.

Lesson 6: DEVELOPING BASIC DIGITAL SKILLS

In this lesson we are going to talk about basic digital ethics. So, as teachers adjust their teaching to effectively match to the new world of information and communication technology. They must be clear on what basic knowledge skills and values need to be developed by learners. Rather than call them literacy skills these are better refer to as fluency.
These are six (6) fluency in Digital Skills that should be considered. First we have SOLUTION FLUENCY or the capacity and creativity in problem solving. Second, we have INFORMATION FLUENCY or the ability to access, retrieved, and reflects on, assess and rewrite for instructive information packages. The third one is the COLLABORATION FLUENCY refers to the teamwork with virtual or real partners in the online environment. The fourth one is the MEDIA FLUENCY that refers to the ability to evaluate the message in a chosen media. The fifth one is the CREATIVITY FLUENCY that means artistic proficiency. And the last but not the least is the DIGITAL ETHICS that talks about the management of oneself ethically, professionally and in a clinically sound manner via online and digital mediums.
Entering a new world of information and communication technology opens the way for complex and higher cognitive skills. The following taxonomy can be proposed: remembering- recall information, understanding- explain ideas, applying- use information in a new way, analyzing- distinguish different parts, evaluating-justify stand or position, creating- new product/point of view. The structured problem solving process known as 4Ds: define the problem, design the solution, do the work, and debrief the outcome also exemplifies the instructional shift in digital learning.

Reflection:
Even learners today need to enhance more their computer literacy particularly in academic aspects. We need to have knowledge and skills in computer literacy since it is essential to teachers. We are in the modern world of technology so we have to expect that students nowadays are more digitally focused and aware. Since we are interacting to completely different students from yesterday it is important for the teachers to be equipped with ocean of knowledge in term of computer literacy. Technology might sometimes create positive and negative impact to each and everyone but we must always put in mind the last sixth fluency or the digital ethics. In the things we do we must be guided with principles and we must be responsible and accountable to the things we search in the digital world.

Application:
as a future teacher as I found out, there is really a need to apply the six fluencies because it will me as a teacher and my students to communicate with the digital world today, thus applying these fluencies will help eradicate the poor performance of the students.

Lesson 7: EVALUATION OF TECHNOLOGY LEARNING

Today, students are expected to be not only cognitive, but also flexible, analytical and creative. In this lesson, there are methods proposed by the use of computer-based as an integral support to higher thinking skills and creativity. To define higher thinking skills and creativity, we may adopt framework that is helpful synthesis of many models and definitions of the subject matter. The framework is not exhaustive but a helpful guide for the teacher’s effort to understand the learner’s higher learning skills. Since the Project Method In this modern day upgraded, the teachers are now guided on their goal to help students achieve higher level thinking skills and creativity beyond the ordinary. Teachers assign the students to work on projects with depth, complexity duration and relevance to the real word. . In doing projects, there are two things that are involved: Process- refers to the steps, effort and experiences in project completion. Product- is the result or the endpoint of the process.

Reflection:
We could really learn better if we are doing it hands-on because we will be able to discover new things and to supplement we also have to be minds-on do that we can achieve the things that we wanted to achieve just like publishing, web site posting, multimedia production and others. I reflected that there must be really a change in the evaluation approach so that we can reach the students’ output and also there I a need to link amateur creators of output to a professional one.

Application:
as teachers in the future, we must bear in mind that in every activity that our learners undergo, it very important that they understand and internalize the process. And that they apply their creativity and develop their higher thinking skills as well.

Lesson 8: HIGHER THINKING SKILLS THROUGH IT-BASED PROJECTS

In this lesson, we shall discuss the four (4) types of IT based projects. The first in the list is the RESOURCED BASED PROJECT which the central principle is to make the students go beyond the textbook and curriculum materials. Furthermore, the inquiry- based or discovery approached is given importance in resourced based project. Finally the processed is given more importance than the product. The 2nd IT based product is the SIMPLE CREATIONS, where in students can be assigned to create their software materials to supplement the need for relevant and effective materials. Creativity is said to combine three skills namely: analyzing, synthesizing and promoting. To develop creativity the ff. is said to be recommended: Define the task, Brainstorm, Judge the ideas, Act, and Adopt flexibility. The 3rd IT based project is the GUIDED HYPERMEDIA PROJECT. The production of self-made multimedia media can be approached in two (2) different ways; as a instructive tool and as communication tool. The 4th and the last is the WEB- BASED PROJECTS where students can be made to create and post web pages on a given topic.

Reflection:
In this lesson the teacher and students steps out in the traditional way of thinking of learning. In this IT based projects it is the students who demonstrate higher thinking skills while the teacher is the facilitator or guide only. It is in this medium also that they became independent to the teacher which is good as they develop their creativity and apply their knowledge in doing so. In this approach that the teacher let the students think deeper and manipulate their own way of thinking and creativity in doing the projects.

Application:
In the near future I would apply demonstrate high thinking skills and creativity and IT based projects were created to develop thinking skills and creativity. Where I am going to create a learning environment that gives students the tools and facilities, and facilitates learning.

Lesson 9: COMPUTERS AS INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY

The evolving pace of innovation age is so dynamic that within the first decade of the 21st century, computer technology in education has matured to transform into an educative information and communicative technology in education. Until the nineties, it was still possible to differentiate instructional and communicative media. Instructional media consists audio-visual aids while communication media comprise the media of communication to audiences including learners. Microsoft office, power point, excel internet explorer, yahoo or Google, adobe reader, MSN, windows media player, cyber link power, and game house are common programs or capabilities that normally installed in an ordinary modern PC.

Reflection:
Today’s modern technology had really made a great innovation in the society. it makes things easier for us. Computer as ICT can help students to search information and data they need and it also aid learning. As teachers in the future, we must integrate technology in our lessons with the help of ICT for these enhance the teaching learning process. Since students nowadays were very fond of using gadgets then it’s a good motivation for them to participate and internalize what they have learned.

Application:
As a teacher to be,  I will make use of the things above to   facilitate the learning of my students I will  give them projects  that  the  above apps would be  useful in doing  so.

Lesson 10: THE COMPUTER AS TUTOR

With the invention of the microcomputer (also referred to personal computer), the PC has become the tool for program instruction. They saw its potential for individualization in learning, especially as individualized learning is a problem since teacher usually with the class of forty or more learners. The computer-assisted instruction (CAI), can be a tutor in affect relieving the teacher of many activities in his/her personal role as a classroom tutor. The available computer and CAI software, teacher must insure that the students have the needed knowledge and skills for any computer activity. The students also in CAI play their own roles as learners as they receive information and understand instructions for the computer activity and so forth. In CAI the computer too plays its roles as it act as a tutor, provides a learning environment, delivers learning instructions, provide feedback and reinforces learning through drill and practice.

Reflection:
The computer can be a tutor since it allows the individual students to learn at their own pace, motivate learning through a challenging virtual learning environment. It assists students through information needed during the learning process and also gives the total score to evaluate the student’s performances.

Application:
As future teacher, we must engage to the computer that explaining the student the good purpose of the computer not for playing or as part of their daily activities which  play games.

Lesson 11: COMPUTERS AS TEACHER'S TOOL

In this lesson we shall again look at the computer, but this time from another perspective the computer as the teacher’s handy-tool. It can in fact support the constructivist and social constructivist and social constructivist paradigms of learning. Social constructivism is an effort to show that the construction of knowledge is opened by social, historical and cultural contexts. Based on the two learning theories, the teacher can employ the computer as; an information tool; communication tool; as a co-constructive tool; and a situating tool. Without the computer, today’s learners may still be assuming the tedious tasks of low level information gathering, building, and new knowledge packaging.

Reflection:
The computer as the teacher’s handy tool since the computer can help teacher and the students to focus on more high level cognitive tasks. The teacher can employ the computer as an information tool, a communication tool, a constructive tool, a co-constructive tool and a situating tool towards the students.

Application:
as a future teacher since we are now on the 21st K-12 learners we have to be equipped with the knowledge about computer thus, this subject EdTech is a very great help to us. We have also to apply the knowledge we gain from this subject for our future use to make our class interactive and alive.

Lesson 12: INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY IN THE SUPPORT OF STUDENT CENTERED LEARNING

The lesson shall respond to questions on student-centered learning approaches in the classroom. From the traditional teacher-centered approach, practical helps on designing and adapting student-learning activities shall be examined. In the traditional classroom, it may be observed that classroom are usually arranged with neat columns and rows of student chairs, while he teacher stands in front of the classroom or sits behind the desk. While the students-centered learning classroom at this times the students are the centered of the learning approach their students have now become active not passive learners, who can interact with other learners, demonstrating independence and self-awareness in the learning process.

Reflection:
Information and communication technologies are supporting the students-centered learning process. The students nowadays are becoming active and not a passive learners, since they are interact with other learners and demonstrating independence in the learning process. Compared to the traditional learning approach, the students are become a passive learners. As a future teacher, I could rather use the student-centered learning approach on the classroom.

Application:
I realized that we must apply in the future the student-centered classroom and integrate it with technology for it is prone in achieving an outcomes-based education.

Lesson 13: COOPERATIVE LEARNING WITH THE COMPUTER

Cooperative or collaboration learning is learning by small group of students who work together in a common learning task. The learning interaction between the students and the computer, that the computer may foster student learning in isolation that hinders the development of the student’s social skills. The advantages of the cooperative learning are encourage active learning while motivating students; increases academic performances; promotes literacy and language skills and improves teacher effectiveness. It is also important for the teacher to limit learning cluster (six is the ideal number in group) so that there can be closer involvement in thinking and learning.

Reflection:
It is a good lesson to be discussed, because I know that cooperative learning makes learners learn more. Technology like computer makes studies easier. So that, if the learners collaborates with the computer the more the knowledge will be acquired by the learners. In summary, collaborates with computer makes the learning easier and meaningful. In here, the action of each student affects the others in a group. Cooperative learning is an affective strategy that can be use to integrate in the computer activities to promote the competencies of the learners.

Lesson 14: SOFTWARE AS AN EDUCATIONAL RESOURCE

The computer hardware can hardly be useful without the program or system that tells what the computer machine should do. And this is also called the software. There are two kinds of software: the system software and the application software. Microsoft windows are an operating environment between the user and the computer operating system. The user can work with on-screen pictures (icons) and suggestions (menus) to arrive at the desk software. Windows is a self-contained operating system which provides; user convenience, new look, information center, plug and play.  Instructional software can be visited on the Internet or can be bought from software shop or dealers. CBI or computer-based instructional is used by schools as a resource collection but this software need much improvement while web-based educational resources are either extremely good or a complete garbage.

For evaluating computer-based educational materials these guidelines may be helpful:
-          Extremely cautious in using CBI’s and “free” Internet materials

-          Don’t get by attractive graphics, sound and animation

-          Evaluate these resources using sound pedagogical principles

-          Observe clarity in the explanation and illustrations of concepts  and principles

-          Maintain accuracy, coherence, logic of information

-          Observed absence of biased materials

Reflection:
Computer is hardware and it can be only useful if it has software that functioning accurately. Depending on its task, the software of the computer may differ either it is system software or application software. In application software there are two kinds, first is custom software which is made for specific task and second commercial software which package in buying a computer. In choosing computer software we must be wise and extremely cautious so that we can chose software which is accurate and useful for our work or task.

Application:
as the year passes by I know that this will be a great help in our future career teachers. So my knowledge about these two will be applied in order for me to cater the needs of 21st digital-based learners, as a globally competitive teacher I need to cope up with the demand of the education system and learning EdTech is one tool that would navigate me into success.

Lesson 17: INTERNET AND EDUCATION

The invention of the computer and the subsequent software programmed for its use has totally changed the whole concept of progress and communication.  Every part of the world can now be reached and contact with other persons where ever they are can be done through the internet.  The internet is the system that enables the user of a computer to gain access to whatever he needs be it for information, for communication, for business or for personal reasons.  Missing relatives can even be found thru the internet by using different search and social sites.  How much more for the field of education; the internet has become its partner in the ever changing learning process.  Students can interact with students in foreign countries, they can share information, learn and grow with each other.  They can search any topic and subject they want to research.  The globe becomes smaller and its inhabitants become closer and relations between countries are improved and strengthened.

Reflection:
Imagine a world without the Internet. We all know we can't imagine such a world. The Internet is one of the reason why the world is the world we know today, a digital world. It is useful, convenient and effective. Name it and the Internet can give you access to it. I'm not exaggerating here but my point is that the Internet gives people access to different information beyond borders, connecting lives and linking vast networks of people and culture who shares a common interest. The Internet for me is a powerful innovation of man, and made for the use of man.

Application:
as a future teacher I will use internet as a tool for learning just like what we are doing, blogging our assignment so I will do the same thing and maybe podcast will also work so doing this things could also utilize their use of internet.

Lesson 16: TABLETS FOR TEXTBOOK IN SCHOOL

Tablet for learning is still futuristic. but today, books are sill the primary of medium of instruction in must schools. these will be replaced by digital technology reading tools, but there are now perceptions that virtual literary may very well ease out textual print literary. already, the disadvantages of using books for learning are being debated upon. the load of books and work books are backbreaking due to their weight and size. publishing and printing millions of books are just too expensive. the errors in public school textbooks have also been exposed, errors resulting from information, technical mistakes and editorial lapses. technology is being viewed as a savior. learning technology along with other audio-visual aids to teaching-and-learning. classroom instruction which rides the vehicle of gaming admittedly makes learning more effective and more fun. de la salle school administrators, parents and other stakeholders have met to discuss the need of tables as a primary learning tool to replace the textbooks. and it was argues that young students carry many heavy books that physically burdensome.

Reflection:
This lesson gives us the idea to need tablets or laptop for textbooks replacement in schools. why? it is a great idea that young students are enjoying to go to school without carrying a heavy books that makes their backbreak that maybe can cause insufficient learning. and books also needed big budget for printing hard copies instead of soft-copies in tablets or laptop.
new gadgets helps students to be comfortable and entertain to used new technology for learning. they can able to learning a lot of information not only for one source but also to many other sources of valid information.

Application:
as a future educator, we will be using tablet as teaching process for the near future but we should put balance on it between books and tablets.
